Healthy teeth through regular prophylaxis

«Smile please!» — anyone who can show visibly healthy, attractive teeth is happy to oblige. The way to a bright smile is easy, and it leads to your dentist in Cologne: to regular check-ups, or prophylaxis.

Prevention at the practice

Besides serious daily care at home, you should also see your dentist every six months. There, many dental diseases can be prevented by preventive measures, or recognised early and treated effectively. Because modern dentistry increasingly relies on prevention, the statutory insurer also covers check-ups twice a year. Most oral diseases can only be treated if they are recognised in time. If a decay infection is left untreated, for example, it travels along the root and can cause painful inflammation inside the tooth. If the infection is too advanced, the affected tooth can usually only be saved by root canal treatment.

How does a dental appointment work?

The check-up therefore mainly serves to take stock: the condition of the teeth and of the spaces between them is documented, and the fit of fillings and dentures is tested.

A particularly effective form of prophylaxis is professional dental cleaning. Depending on the individual situation in the mouth, it can be used three or four times a year. A specially trained prophylaxis assistant cleans the teeth, the interdental spaces and the gum pockets thoroughly and lastingly of bacteria and removes stubborn discolouration and tartar. Finally the teeth are made more resistant. This deep clean is intensive prevention against dental and oral disease. Invest in your dental health too, and arrange regular check-up appointments with your dentist in Cologne. Professor UF, USA Dr Manfred Bender is glad to be there for you on the way to healthy, attractive teeth.
